Oxfordshire, England, UK

3 people made this

IngredientsMakes: 1 cake

  • 150g butter
  • 150g caster sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 150g self-raising flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • For icing and filling
  • 100g icing sugar
  • jam, marmelade, or lemon curd
  • 50g butter, softened
  • food colouring of your taste
  • 2 (9x20.7) gmultipacks dark chocolate Kit-Kat® fingers
  • sweets to decorate

MethodPrep:30min ›Cook:25min ›Ready in:55min

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, then mix in all the other ingredients.
  3. Pour into a greased round baking tin and bake until golden brown and a knife dipped into the cake comes out clean, 20 to 25 minutes. Allow to cool.
  4. For the icing mix the icing sugar and butter until smooth. Mix in a few drops of food colouring.
  5. Once cool, slice the cake in half horizontally, and add a layer of jam, marmalade or lemon curd, topped with a layer of butter-icing. Coat the sides and top of the cake with the remainder of the butter icing. (If you like a lot of icing, scale up the amounts to ensure you cover the entire cake).
  6. Unwrap your Kit-Kat bars, and place each pack of two fingers inward facing around the outside of the cake until you fully surrounded the cake. Add a few sweets on the top to add some interest. Tie a ribbon or piece of strong twine around the outside to hold the biscuits in place until the icing sets.

Chocolate Cauldron Cakes

This post and recipe was created for #HalloweenTreatsWeek. I was sent samples by some of the sponsor companies but as always opinions are 100% mine.

Turn cupcakes into Cauldron Cakes for Halloween! Chocolate cupcakes are the base for a marshmallow potion, and Sweets & Treats sprinkles bubble out of the top.

I hope these spooky sweets and treats are getting you into the Halloween mood!

When I think of Halloween, one of the classic symbols is a witch. Witch decorations, witch costumes, etc.! So, why not witchy treats? I turned ordinary chocolate cupcakes into cauldron cakes with the help of Sweets & Treats Boutique's sprinkle mix.

When I was considering how to construct these cauldron cakes, I was originally going to frost them, then add the sprinkles. But, they wouldn't resemble cauldrons at all. Just cupcakes with sprinkles. Then I found a tutorial from Pastry Affair, and while they look AWESOME (seriously, go check them out!), they are a lot of work. And since the cauldron handles aren't made with tempered chocolate, they wouldn't maintain their shape after a while.

So, I simplified mine a bit. I loved the idea of filling them with yummy marshmallow cream to help the sprinkles adhere. But after that, I simply added some dollops of chocolate frosting around the edges for a rim. I really doubt my 6-year-old would appreciate the time and effort of making cauldron feet out of chocolate chips.

My favorite part of these cauldron cakes the sprinkles bubbling out of the top of the "cauldrons." I love the "Monster Mash" sprinkle mix I got from Sweets & Treats. I've been a fan of theirs for years, and I've used their paper straws and cupcake liners in past posts. Their pre-made sprinkle mixes come in all sorts of creative themes! If you don't see a pre-made mix that works for you, you can even create your own.

They have sprinkle options that are vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, or nut-free, and they have tags under Allergy Info in their menu, so you can easily find sprinkles that are safe for your dietary needs.

People Are Freaking Out Over These Cauldron Cakes At The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter

Double double toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble.

The cauldron cakes at the The Wizarding World of Harry Potter just got a whole lot more magical. The theme park has switched out the colorless original &ndash made of chocolate cake filled with chocolate mousse, dipped in ganache and topped with a ganache handle &ndash for something altogether more inspiring (and ultimately less ugly).

The new recipe rests inside of a reusable black cauldron, contains chocolate cake and is topped with colorful orange and yellow butter creme flames, and is going for $9.95, according to the Orlando Informer.

And despite the 252 percent price increase from the original $3.95, people seem to be really enjoying the revamped cauldron cakes.

And since the cauldron is reusable, it can be used to bake in, making the $6 price increase totally worth it for those who take Halloween seriously.

Exclusive to Honeydukes in Hogsmeade and Sugarplum's Sweet Shop in Diagon Alley this little Harry-Potter-themed confection is sure to your craving for both sugar and Harry Potter in one fell swoop.

CAN YOU MAKE MUG CAKES AHEAD OF TIME?

I wouldn’t. As I already mentioned, mug cakes tend to dry out quickly, so your best bet is to serve them while they are still warm (not hot, warm). Well, you could serve them hot if you’re not frosting them.
