5 Cocktails Inspired By Grammy-Nominated Songs

If you're looking for a drink to enjoy during the Grammys, we've got you covered.

As your favorite pop stars head to the Staples Center to celebrate the 58th annual Grammy Awards on February 15th, they'll be treated to gourmet bites from Patina Catering, the event's official caterers.

You, on the other hand, will probably be eating Valentine's Day leftovers or the President's Day special from your favorite takeout joint (no shame, we'll be doing the same thing). But even if your food isn't on quite the same level as Taylor Swift, Adele, and Rihanna's, your cocktails can be.

In celebration of the annual music fest, Patina Restaurant Group's corporate mixologist, Evan Charest, has created five cocktails inspired by the nominees for Record of the Year.

Read on for the recipes, but be warned: you might not be able to feel your face after a few of these stiff drinks.

This cocktail &mdash a variation of whiskey-based "The Paper Plane" &mdash was inspired by D'Angelo's song "Really Love." The song's opening is in Spanish, and agave originated in Spain and Portugal, so Charest immediately thought to use the smoky spirit Mezcal here.

2 oz. Mezcal
1/2 oz. Aperol
3/4 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
1 Dash Angostura Bitters
1/2 oz. Simple Syrup

Combine all ingredients, shake and double strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a lemon peel.

This purple-hued beverage was inspired by Taylor Swift's hit song "Blank Space." To match the complex themes of the song, which include broken promises, jealousy, and passion, Charest "wanted a drink with a lot of depth, both in body and color."

2 oz. Rye Whiskey
3/4 oz. Honey
3/4 oz. Lemon Juice
2-3 Blackberries

Muddle blackberries. Add all other ingredients and shake & strain into a double rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with a blackberry.

Charest was inspired by the hit Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars song "Uptown Funk" for this refreshing drink. The name is of course a reference to the catchy chorus, and Charest said he used ginger syrup to add a funky kick.

1.5 oz. Gin
3/4 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
1/2 oz. Ginger Syrup
1 oz. Apple Juice

Combine gin, lemon, ginger, and apple. Shake and strain into a Collins glass filled with ice. Top with Soda. Garnish with an apple slice.

Ed Sheeran's hit song "Think Out Loud," served as the inspiration for this variation on a classic Rum Smash. To honor the song's focus on love, Charest said he "wanted to create a cocktail that had a nice red color."

1.5 oz. White Rum
1/2 oz. Simple Syrup
1/2 oz. Lemon Juice
1 Strawberry and 2 Pieces of Basil Muddled
Top with Sparkling Wine

Muddle strawberries and basil. Add all other ingredients and shake & double strain into a chilled large coupe. Garnish with a strawberry slice or basil leaf.

Charest was inspired by The Weeknd's summer anthem "Can't Feel My Face" to create this complex cocktail. Charest said he "wanted something with some heat that could hit you on your front palate," and perhaps make you unable to feel your own face.

2 oz. Vodka
1/2 oz. Ancho Reyes Chile Liquor
1/2 oz. Simple Syrup
3/4 oz. Lemon Juice
6-8 Mint Leaves

Muddle the mint, add all ingredients, and shake & double strain over a chilled coupe.

1. Tequila Sunrise

1.5 oz jigger tequila
¾ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
½ oz jigger grenadine syrup
1 slice orange, for garnish
1 maraschino cherry, for garnish

Mixing Instructions:
In a shaker, pour tequila and orange juice and mix together. In a tall glass, fill with ice cubes and pour in mixture. Take grenadine and slowly add it in to allow it to fall to the bottom. Take orange slice and maraschino cherry and garnish.

Remember the days when Mel Gibson was actually well respected and not the raving lunatic that he is today? When he starred in the movie Tequila Sunrise, the movie garnered Oscar nominations and had top billboard songs from the sound track. And a very sleek cocktail was created from the title. Even if Mel can no longer keep his cool these days, this cocktail sure can. Why not try one out on a sultry, summer evening and decide for yourself?
