Every week, we take a look at some of the restaurants that have opened or will soon open across the country. Here’s this week’s roundup:


FIG & OLIVE is expanding to Newport Beach and opening in Fashion Island shopping center in summer 2014, according to a press release. 6. FIG & OLIVE aims to "capture the essence and flavors of the coastal towns along the French Riviera."

The Wallace just opened in Culver City featuring locally sourced and sustainable ingredients, a menu that changes seasonally, and a filtered water system, according to a press release. The restaurant also offers a beverage program that includes a selection of curated and locally sourced beer and wine as well as signature cocktails.


The owners of The Catbird Seat and The Patterson House just opened Pinewood Social in Rolling Mill Hill, according to a press release. The new venue, which "bridges the gap between mornings, afternoons, and evenings," consists of four concepts — a coffee shop, a casual restaurant, a cocktail bar, and "a compendium of playful activities." Its outdoor patio and pool area are set to open in the spring or summer of 2014.

New York City

Manhattan’s first Dairy Queen location is opening in spring 2014 near Union Square in a two-story space formerly occupied by Fabco Shoes, according to a press release.

Gregory’s Coffee, which has five locations in Midtown and Flatiron, will open three new shops in the Financial District in March 2014. Coffee shop owner Gregory Zamfotis gets coffee beans from various coffee roasters and uses several brewing methods, including French press and pour over. The new locations will open at 100 Wall St., 80 Broad St. and 42 Broadway.

Noma co-founder Claus Meyer is planning to open a "Nordic food emporium" sometime in 2014, but details are limited.

Umami Restaurant Group is opening 800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria, a build-your-own assembly line-style, quick service restaurant in NoMad. Customers can choose their own bases for $5.35 to $7.35 and toppings for $1 each.

New York’s The Pod 51 Hotel and Pop Burger teamed up to introduce a craft beer gastropub, Pop @ Pod, located within the hotel, according to a press release. The gastropub features pub food, including signature sliders, mussels, seasonal salads, and a wide selection of craft beers, beer cocktails, and Casamigos Tequila beverages.

The co-owners of West Village’s Snack Taverna just opened Greek-inspired Mediterranean restaurant Snack EOS in Hell’s Kitchen, according to a press release. The restaurant features re-imagined Greek classics including Taramosalata with roasted lemon and caviar, chicken liver with candied bacon, and white bean with saffron petimezi and warm pita bread.

New Jersey

Victory Sports Bar & Club is opening Dec. 7 within the new Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment venue, which opened Nov. 23. Featuring a "Vegas style" setting with access to betting on live and simulcast races, the sports bar is catered toward party-goers and is also suitable for private parties and family affairs. Inside, 12-by-20-foot TVs and two oversized chandeliers, each holding three 60-inch flat-screen TVs, are provided. The venue will open at 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays and will turn into a nightclub on Saturday nights. Additionally, it will be open on live race days and on Sundays during the NFL playoffs.


In Post Hotel & Spa, a new fondue restaurant Fondue Stubli just opened in the space that was previously the cigar room. It specializes in traditional Swiss-style fondues, including cheese fondue and for beef lovers, fondue "bourguignonne," and "chinoise." The Stubli opens for dinner at 5 p.m. with 24 seats available.
